Lincoln County
Settlement began in Lincoln County when people began to carve out small farms in the region around 1800. The county was created from parts of Boone, Cabell, Kanawha and Putnam counties in 1867 because residents of the region found it difficult to travel to the different county seats for business.

The county is named for President Abraham Lincoln. The county is one of five in the state named for presidents.

The economy in the area is mainly based on agriculture. Coal mining was once important to the area but is no longer significant. Many in the county now work in nearby Huntington.

Chuck Yeager, the first pilot to break the sound barrier, is from Lincoln County. The airport in nearby Kanawha County is named for the pilot.

The county seat of Lincoln County is Hamlin.
