Doddridge County

Doddridge County was formed in 1845 from portions of Harrison, Tyler, Ritchie and Lewis counties. It was named in honor of Phillip Doddridge who was a United Sates congressman and Virginia legislator.

Most of the county drains into Middle Island Creek. The creek flows more than 75 miles into the Ohio River and has been called the Longest Creek in the World.

The production of railroad cross ties was the first major industry in the county.

The major industries today are oil and gas production, lumbering and farming.

West Union is the county seat for Doddridge County.
