Scenic highways you may wish to explore are the Highland Scenic Highway, W.Va. 150 from the Cranberry Visitor Center to just north of Edray; the Highland Trace, W.Va. 55 from Richwood to the Virginia border; and the Midland Trail Scenic Highway, U.S. 60 from Charleston to White Sulphur Springs.

East-west routes of note include U.S. 50 from Parkersburg, W. Va., to Winchester, Va. and U.S. 33 from Mason, W. Va., to Harrisonburg, Va. State Route 92 provides a challenging north-south course from White Sulphur Springs to Morgantown, W. Va.(Most of the aforementioned are two-lane highways, and cyclists should exercise caution when using them.)

As part of this growing sport, West Virginia state parks and forests are developing systems of trails to scenic wonders sure to excite any avid off-road cyclist. Additional side benefits to park cycling are the covenience of camping and lodging facilities and the wide range of other recreational opportunities. Significant trails can also be found in our city parks and national forests and recreational areas.

Rail trails, the new wave in the hiking/biking experience, are also being developed throughout the state. As railway spurs are being abandoned and the rails removed, park systems, local communities and other concerns are restoring bridges and resurfacing them into ideal cycling thoroughfares.
